What temperature should Guppies be kept at

This livebearing species of fish is one of the most popular fish. Most of the aquariums that will come across will have this species of fish. These species of fish are adorned by vibrant colors and are peaceful meaning that they don’t swim around to bother their tank mates.

They are also easy to care for and are perfect for beginners.

They might be easy to take care of but every species of fish need to be kept in their preferable water parameters. It is one of the primary and essential things which determines the life of the fish.

If they are not kept in the optimal conditions they will not be living a good life. So it is a mandatory aspect of owning and keeping a fish healthy.

What temperature should Guppies be kept at?

Water temperature is an important factor in a fish’s life.

The temperature must be within the range preferred by the fish species. In the case of Guppies, you must keep them in the temperature range of 74℉ to 82℉.

They do well, can grow properly, and remain healthy within this range of temperature.

You also have to keep the temperature constant and not let fluctuations occur. Otherwise it will end up in your Guppies being stressed.

Other Water Parameters

Temperature is not the only field that needs to be met for Guppies to survive. There are water parameters such as pH levels and water hardness.

For Guppies the pH levels must be ranging from 6.8 to 7.6 pH. The Water hardness needs to be ranging between 12 to 18 DKH.

Lifespan of Guppies

The usual life span of a guppy fish is two to five years.

Like any fish, the amount of care you give will have a significant impact on how long they live.

If you can offer them the best level of care, maintenance, and attention, then they will live a long and healthy life. When you are unable to do so then your Guppy will succumb to stress.

Size of Guppies

Guppies typically measure two inches in length when fully developed. Male and female guppies both grow to be twice as big. Females can grow to be up to 2.5 inches long.

Males, on the other hand, may not even reach the two-inch threshold.

Tank size for Guppies

Guppies don’t grow to become too big. So this in turn leads to them not requiring a large tank. A 10-gallon tank is the best size for a small group of Guppies.

You can keep 3 to 4 of them in a 10-gallon tank. Don’t go for size any lesser than this. With this size, your Guppies will have enough room to swim around.

Tank mates for Guppies

The majority of other fish species get along with guppies since they are social fish.

The guppy’s diminutive size, however, makes it a target for aggressive fish and a food source for large fish. Keep guppies in a tank with other little fish that are calm.

Guppies prefer to hang out towards the top of the tank, so you should pair them up with fish that prefer to hang out in the centre and at the bottom of the tank to avoid getting in each other’s way.

The best tankmates for Guppies are Mollies, Kuhli Loaches, Cory catfish, Cardinal tetras, Zebra Danios, Sparkling Gouramis, Platies, Neon Tetras, Bristlenose Pleco, Dwarf Chain Loaches, and Rummy Nose Tetras.

 Diet of Guppies

Guppies consume a variety of foods in the environment, including algae, invertebrates, insect larvae, and mineral particles, depending on the availability of these items in the fish’s habitat.

Give guppies a diversified feed in the aquarium that closely resembles their natural diet.

Guppies will get a range of nutrients and have a minimal chance of deficiency if they are fed algae wafers, high-quality fish flakes, and frozen meals like bloodworms.

For your guppies, feed them twice a day for the best health.

Only give your Guppies as much food as they can consume in two minutes. To keep the water in good condition, remove any leftover food.

Tank setup for Guppies

For tank setup, let us begin with the substrate. You can use gravel, rocks, or sandy substrate for Guppies. But the best one would be a sandy substrate.

A sandy substrate is also useful for keeping live plants. For a Guppy tank, plants are also necessary. You can add a lot of plants such as the Java Moss, and more similar plants. Guppies enjoy having plants in their tank and love swimming around them.

Guppies also enjoy having rocks and decors in their tank. So get your tank acquainted with several rocks and driftwood. You can also get plastic decors.

Keep the illumination natural at all times! Guppies don’t require a lot of light. They do, however, require a typical day and night cycle. Place the tank close to a window for natural illumination or set up timers for the aquarium’s regular lights.

Cost of Guppies

Guppies range in price from $4 to $25, depending on the fish’s rarity and distinctiveness.

Guppies should be purchased in quantities of at least three, with prices ranging from $12 to $75.

Conclusion

So, Guppies have to be kept in the optimal range of temperature and other water parameters.

For temperature, the best range is 74℉ to 82℉. You must maintain this range of temperature for the best health of your Guppies.

Fluctuation is not good for them as they will go under stress leading to diseases.
